Davide Rebellin (born August 9, 1971 in San Bonifacio , Italy ) is an Italian racing cyclist .

Career

Rebellin began his professional career in 1995 with the MG-Technogym cycling team .

Rebellin had his breakthrough at the Giro d'Italia in 1996 , which he finished in sixth place in the overall standings after winning the seventh stage and thereby conquering the Maglia Rosa of the overall leader, which he defended up to the twelfth stage.

In the following years he developed into a specialist for shorter stage races and one-day races . So he won z. For example, in 2001 the Tirreno – Adriatico stage race and in 2004 the first ever rider to successively win the three spring classics Amstel Gold Race , La Flèche Wallonne and Liège – Bastogne – Liège .

After Rebellin was not appointed to the Italian national team for several years, Rebellin took on the Argentine citizenship in September 2004 in order to compete in the jersey of Argentina at the 2004 UCI Road World Championships . However, his participation for Argentina was rejected by the UCI a few days before the race due to a formal error.

He later drove again for the Italian Federation and finished the road race at the 2008 Summer Olympics in second place. However, follow-up checks at the end of April 2009 showed that CERA had been taken in the run-up to the race. In November 2009 , the IOC then recognized the silver medal he had won. The decision of the IOC was confirmed by the International Court of Justice in 2010 and Rebellin was banned for two years by the Monegasque association responsible for it.
