Willy Bocklant was the son of cyclist Robert Bocklant, who raced in the 1940s. He himself began his athletic career as a competitive athlete in the late 1950s. In 1966 he suffered a serious fall, after which he could no longer build on his previous form. In 1967 he was still the winner at E3 Harelbeke .
Bocklant competed in the Tour de France three times - in 1963 , 1964 and 1965 - but was never able to finish it.
After retiring from cycling, Willy Bocklant opened a car wash, stopped doing sports and gained around 30 kilograms within two years. In 1985 he died of a heart attack at the age of 44.
