The one-day race Paris – Roubaix 1964 was the 62nd edition of the cycling classic and took place on Sunday, April 19, 1964.
The race led from Saint-Denis , north of Paris , to Roubaix , where it ended in the Vélodrome André-Pétrieux . The route was 265 kilometers long. 137 drivers started, 81 of whom were able to place. The winner Peter Post completed the race at an average speed of 45.129 km / h , making it the fastest edition of the race until 2017.
During the race there was rain and a strong tail wind. After around 160 kilometers, a leading group had formed that did not include either Rik Van Looy or Raymond Poulidor , the favorites to win. Then there were numerous failures due to defects on the wheels and exhaustion of the drivers, so that only four drivers remained in the top group. Peter Post had Willi Bocklant as a supporter and world champion Benoni Beheyt and his teammate Yvo Molenaers . Post won the sprint and was the first Dutchman to win Paris – Roubaix . The German Rudi Altig finished eleventh.
