Gaston Rebry

The one-day race Paris – Roubaix 1934 was the 35th edition of the cycling classic and took place on Sunday, April 1st, 1934.

The race went from Argenteuil over 255 kilometers. 120 drivers started, 54 of whom were able to place. The winner Gaston Rebry completed the race with an average speed of 32.41 km / h .

With ten kilometers to go, four drivers broke away: René Le Grevès , Roger Lapébie , Gaston Rebry and Jean Wauters . The handlebars of Le Greves broke and Lapébie had a plate . Lapébie grabbed a ladies bike and swapped it for a racing bike a short time later. He caught up with Rebry and Wauters and was the first to cross the finish line, but was not declared the winner. The wheels had been marked before the race and it turned out that Lapébie had finished the race on a different bike than the one he started on. He was disqualified and Gaston Rebry won the Paris – Roubaix for the second time since 1931 .
