Emile Daems (1961)

The one-day race Paris – Roubaix 1963 was the 61st edition of the cycling classic and took place on Sunday, April 7th, 1963.

The race led from Saint-Denis , north of Paris , to Roubaix , where it ended in the Vélodrome André-Pétrieux . The route was 266 kilometers long. 78 drivers were able to place themselves. The winner Emile Daems completed the race with an average speed of 37.68 km / h .

Noël Foré led the race alone for 20 kilometers until he was overtaken by Rolf Wolfshohl two kilometers from the finish . Shortly thereafter closed Rik Van Looy as a leader of a group of strong riders to Wolfshohl on, and it came on the cycling track to a sprint finish with eleven drivers. Van Looy wanted to win the race by attempting at full speed to intercept the leading Daems from above, but failed. Wolfshohl took eleventh place.
