The one-day race Paris – Roubaix 1979 was the 77th edition of the cycling classic and took place on Sunday, April 8, 1979.

The race led from Compiègne , around 80 kilometers north of Paris , to Roubaix , where it ended in the Vélodrome André-Pétrieux . The entire route was 264 kilometers long. 173 drivers started, 51 of whom were able to place. The winner Francesco Moser completed the race with an average speed of 41.01 km / h .

Roger De Vlaeminck , who had been Moser's teammate the previous year, had meanwhile switched to the rival Gis Gelati team . Marc Demeyer and Hennie Kuiper set the pace in the peloton . When the two successfully attempted an escape, De Vlaeminck and Moser caught up with them. Moser, in turn, managed to get out of this group. Despite a tire defect , he reached the cycling track in Roubaix alone and took his second victory at Paris-Roubaix in a row.
