The one-day race Paris – Roubaix 1930 was the 31st edition of the cycling classic and took place on Sunday, April 20, 1930.
The race went from Argenteuil over 258 kilometers. 86 racing drivers started, 35 of whom were able to place. The winner Julien Vervaecke completed the race with an average speed of 31.51 km / h .
With 65 kilometers to go, Leander Gijssels , Julien Vervaecke and Jean Maréchal broke away . Gijssels couldn't keep up with the pace and fell behind. During the final sprint, both riders used their elbows and Vervaecke fell. Maréchal crossed the finish line on Avenue les Villas in Roubaix with a margin of 24 seconds . Vervaecke protested and was declared the winner. It is believed that his sponsor, Alcyon, influenced this decision. Until his death, Maréchal was convinced that he was the rightful winner.
