Germain Derycke

The one-day race Paris – Roubaix 1953 was the 51st edition of the cycling classic and took place on Sunday, April 12, 1953.

The race led from Saint-Denis , north of Paris , to Roubaix , where it ended in the Vélodrome André-Pétrieux . The route was 245 kilometers long. The number of starters and those who arrived at the finish is unknown, the time was taken from 75 drivers. Germain Derycke completed the race at an average speed of 43.320 km / h .

A group of five drivers led 20 kilometers from the finish: Donato Piazza , Wout Wagtmans , Germain Derycke, Raphaël Géminiani and Adolfo Grosso . Grosso and Géminiani fell behind due to defects in their bikes. Piazza made a successful breakaway attempt and Derycke was able to follow him. The two drivers reached the cycling track together. Piazza pulled away, but Derycke was able to pass him in the final sprint.
