The one-day race Paris – Roubaix 1961 was the 59th edition of the cycling classic and took place on Sunday, April 9th, 1961.

The race led from Saint-Denis , north of Paris , to Roubaix , where it ended in the Vélodrome André-Pétrieux . The route was 263.5 kilometers long. 121 drivers could place themselves. The winner Rik Van Looy completed the race with an average speed of 41.70 km / h .

As a result of a successful breakaway attempt, led by Henry Anglade , six riders - including five Belgians - arrived at the velodrome together . Emile Daems initiated the final sprint, but Van Looy, who was in brilliant shape, easily won it despite one of his tires losing air.
