The one-day race Paris – Roubaix 1907 was the twelfth edition of the cycling classic and took place on Sunday, March 31, 1907.
The start of the race was moved to Chatou because the police in the Seine department had imposed too strict conditions. The distance went over 270 kilometers. There were 71 racing cyclists at the start, 22 of whom were able to place. The winner Georges Passerieu completed the race at an average speed of 30.971 kilometers per hour .
Passerieu reached the Velodrome roubaisien a little ahead of the field alone. At the entrance to the cycling track, he was stopped by a policeman who checked that Passerieu had paid the necessary toll for using the roads. The organizing newspaper L'Auto urgently advised drivers to pay this fee before the race. Despite this stay, Passerieu managed to get on the train before Cyrille Van Hauwaert . He crossed the finish line just as Van Hauwaert reached the track.
In this race, Pottier wore a jersey that had belonged to his friend and winner of the 1906 Tour de France , René Pottier. Pottier had committed suicide in January 1907 - probably out of lovesickness - by hanging himself.
