Albert Champion (1904)

The one-day race Paris – Roubaix 1899 was the fourth edition of the cycling classic and took place on Sunday, April 2nd, 1899.

The race went from Chatou over 286 kilometers. 32 professional cyclists started, 16 of whom reached the finish line. The winner, Albert Champion , completed the race with an average speed of 31.976 kilometers per hour . The weather was fine and there was no wind.

At this Paris – Roubaix event, the pacemakers started on motorcycles . For this reason, several track cycling specialists started who wanted to improve their skills behind engines. Among them was the winner champion.
