The one-day race Paris – Roubaix 1974 was the 72nd edition of the cycling classic and took place on Sunday, April 7th, 1974.

The race led from Chantilly , around 50 kilometers north of Paris , to Roubaix , where it ended in the Vélodrome André-Pétrieux . The entire route was 274 kilometers long and did not go over the Trouée d'Arenberg . 176 drivers started, 55 of whom were able to place. The winner Roger De Vlaeminck completed the race with an average speed of 37.582 km / h .

After several attempts to drive away from the peloton , Francesco Moser and Walter Godefroot managed to pull away 29 kilometers from the finish. However, Godefroot had a tire failure and could no longer keep up with Moser. In the meantime, De Vlaeminck had increased his pace and caught up with Moser. Moser slipped and crashed his bike into a curve, so that De Vlaeminck was able to win the race for the second time after 1972 ; he was to win four times in all by 1977.
