The one-day race Paris – Roubaix 1973 was the 71st edition of the cycling classic and took place on Sunday, April 15, 1973.

The race led from Chantilly , around 50 kilometers north of Paris , to Roubaix , where it ended in the Vélodrome André-Pétrieux . The entire route was 272 kilometers long. 138 drivers started, 35 of whom were able to place. The winner Eddy Merckx completed the race with an average speed of 36.37 km / h .

At the Trouée d'Arenberg , a group of 16 riders was able to pull ahead. From this group only Roger De Vlaeminck and Eddy Merckx were left in the pavé sector of Bouvignies . De Vlaeminck, however, still suffered from an arm injury that he sustained at Gent-Wevelgem and therefore could not keep up with Merckx. Eddy Merckx completed a solo ride of 44 kilometers and won the Paris – Roubaix race for the third time after 1968 and 1970 .
