Start of the race in Chatou

The one-day race Paris – Roubaix 1911 was the 16th edition of the cycling classic and took place on Sunday, April 16, 1911.

The race went from Chatou over 266 kilometers. There were 120 racing cyclists at the start, 59 of whom were able to place. The winner Octave Lapize , who had also won in the previous two years, completed the race at an average speed of 28.746 kilometers per hour .

In the past few years, racing drivers had repeatedly fallen victim to nail attacks on the road, and nails were even found in car tires. Two bicycle manufacturers offered 3000 francs a bonus to those who helped identify the bandits .

As in the previous year, Octave Lapize and Cyrille Van Hauwaert formed a small group in front of the peloton . Shortly before the Velodrome roubaisien , however, Van Hauwaert had a flat tire, so that Lapize was able to secure his third win in a row.
