Benoni Beheyt (born September 27, 1940 in Zwijnaarde ) is a former Belgian professional cyclist .

Between 1958 and 1960 Beheyt achieved 105 victories, including a. he became Belgian military champion in 1960. In 1960 Benoni Beheyt started at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome ; in the road race , he finished ninth. In the same year he became Belgian champion in two-man team driving for amateurs, with Charles Rabaye . In 1962 he joined the professionals.

Beheyt was best known for his duel with his compatriot Rik Van Looy during the 1963 UCI Road World Championships in front of a home audience in Ronse, Belgium , which he won. Van Looy was supposed to win the world title for the third time. When he noticed that Beheyt would not stick to the agreement, he drove waves to hinder Beheyt, whereupon the latter pulled off Van Looy's jersey and was the first to cross the finish line. Allegedly they never spoke a word to each other afterwards.

Van Looy is said to have used his influence in cycling circles to make life difficult for Beheyt so that he could not achieve the desired success. In 1968 he ended his career.

His grandson is the racing driver Guillaume Van Keirsbulck , who has been riding for the Quickstep Cycling Team since 2010 .
