Andy Raymond Schleck (born June 10, 1985 in Luxembourg ) is a former Luxembourg cyclist . His greatest successes were winning the Tour de France 2010 , which was awarded after Alberto Contador's disqualification, and the classic win at Liège – Bastogne – Liège in 2009.
Athletic career
In 2005 Andy Schleck signed at the age of 19 years his first professional contract with the Danish team CSC Saxo Bank by Bjarne Riis , in which even his five-year older brother Fränk rode.
At the Giro d'Italia 2007 , Schleck drew attention for the first time during a major tour, when he finished second in the overall standings behind the Italian Danilo Di Luca and won the jersey of the best young professional. In 2008 he took part in the Tour de France for the first time as a team mate of the eventual winner Carlos Sastre , where he reached 12th place and won the white jersey of the best young professional.
At the Flèche Wallonne 2009, Andy Schleck took second place behind the Italian Davide Rebellin . Four days later he clinched his first big victory: the then 23-year-old Luxembourger single- handedly won the classic Liège – Bastogne – Liège 1:17 minutes ahead of the runner-up. Andy Schleck won the eighth stage of the Tour de France 2010 and picked up the yellow jersey on the 9th stage , which he lost again on the 15th stage due to a technical defect. Schleck was also able to win the 17th stage up to the Col du Tourmalet . In the overall standings he finished second, 39 seconds behind Alberto Contador. Schleck started the 2012 season in weak form. After breaking his sacrum in a fall at the Critérium du Dauphiné , he missed the Tour de France . He only returned to racing in the fall.
Even in 2013 and 2014, Andy Schleck was unable to build on the successes of previous years. After he had not finished numerous races or only achieved rear positions in the spring of 2013, he came 20th in the Tour de France .
