Pierre Clemens
Pierre Clemens (born August 2, 1913 in Rédange ; † August 26, 1963 in Bettemburg ) was a Luxembourg cyclist .
Athletic career
Pierre Clemens only started cycling at the age of 21 , he was a professional racing driver from 1936 to 1945. He and his brother Mathias Clemens, who was two years younger than him, formed a similarly successful Luxembourg cycling duo as Fränk and Andy Schleck , with Mathias being the more successful of Both was.
In 1936 Clemens was fourth in the overall ranking of the Tour de France . In 1937 he won the national title in the road race, finished third in the Tour of Luxembourg in the same year and won Nancy-Strasbourg . In 1939 he won the Tour de l'Est Central and in 1943 the Grand Prix de Westmark . Also in 1943 he was again third on the Tour of Luxembourg .
Pierre Clemens was often unlucky during his cycling career. After a fall in the Tour de France in 1937 , he was handicapped for a long time and during his participation in the Tour de Suisse in 1939, lying in a promising position for the overall victory, he was hit by the tour director's car. After the Second World War he competed in a few track races, but ended his career in 1945.
Professional
After retiring, he ran a bicycle shop in Bettembourg, which was run by his children after his accidental death.
