Lucien Didier

Lucien Didier (born August 5, 1950 in Luxemburg , Luxemburg ) is a former Luxemburgish cyclist .

Life

After Didier won the François Faber Grand Prix three times among the amateurs and was once the road champion in his country, he became a professional with the Belgian cycling team Ijsboercke in 1977 .

Didier drove the Tour de France six times for the French team Renault from 1978 to 1984 . He was involved as Domestik in 1978 , 1979 , 1981 and 1982 in four of the five tour victories of Bernard Hinault and in 1983 and 1984 in the two victories by Laurent Fignon . He also competed twice each in the Vuelta a España and the Giro d'Italia . He supported the eventual winner Hinault as a helper at the Vuelta a España 1978 and the Giro d'Italia 1980 and 1982 . At the Vuelta a España in 1980 he achieved his best placement in the Grand Tours as 19th .

His greatest individual successes included overall victories at the Tour of Luxembourg in 1979 and 1983 as well as four Luxembourg professional road driving titles from 1977 to 1980. He also won the so-called three twice at these championships, which were held together with the championships of the German and Swiss associations Nations Championship . In 1979 he was voted Luxembourg Sportsman of the Year . He took part in the Olympic Games twice: in 1972 in Munich he finished 56th in the road race, in 1976 in Montreal he was eliminated.

At the Luxembourg championship in 1982 Didier was outclassed for a positive doping control.

Lucien Didier is related by marriage to the former racing cyclist Bim Diederich . His son Laurent Didier is also a cyclist.
