Jean Goldschmit
Jean "Jang" Goldschmit (born February 20, 1924 in Luxembourg - Weimerskirch , † January 14, 1994 in Luxembourg City) was a Luxembourg cyclist.
Athletic career
He took part in the Tour de France four times and was able to win two stages and wear the yellow jersey for three days at the Tour de France 1950 . Also in 1950 he was able to take second place at the Tour de Suisse, 6:49 minutes behind. In 1958 and 1959 he was the sporting director of the Dutch- Luxembourgish (NELUX) team, with which his friend Charly Gaul won the 1958 Tour de France . In 1961 he and Alex Burtin headed the Swiss- Luxembourg cycling team.
Professional
After finishing his career, Goldschmit initially ran a restaurant in Luxembourg. He later worked as a representative for a shoe company. In 1958 he was team leader of the Luxembourg team on the International Peace Tour . From 1960 to 1962 he worked as a coach for the national team of amateurs. He also drove RTL Luxembourg's car in the Tour de France for many years.
Honors
In memory of Jean Goldschmit, a memorial plaque was placed in the Weimerskirch cultural center .
