Bob Jungels (born September 22, 1992 in Rollingen near Mersch ) is a Luxembourgish cyclist .
Career
In 2008 he became Luxembourg champion in the debutant class in cyclocross and took second place in the road race . A year later he won both races in the junior class and also won the junior time trial championship. In addition, he won the silver medal at the European championships in the individual time trial .
In 2010 he was able to repeat victory in all three national classes and became junior world champion in the time trial.
As of 2011, Jungels focused entirely on road racing. In the same season he won two gold medals at the Games of the Small States of Europe and was Luxembourgish champion in the U23 class in road races and individual time trials. In addition, he won the silver medal in the individual time trial at the U23 European Championships and was tenth in the road race.
For the 2012 season in Jungels was Leopard Trek Continental team , the youth team of the team RadioShack-Nissan , professional . This year he won, among other things, victories in the overall rankings of the stage races Le Triptyque des Monts et Châteaux and Flèche du Sud as well as in the U23 event at Paris-Roubaix .
In 2013 he received his first contract with a UCI ProTeam at Team RadioShack Leopard . For this team he won his first race in the first UCI category in his first year with the Gran Premio Nobili Rubinetterie and his first race hors categorie with a stage of the Tour of Luxembourg . In addition, he was the first Luxembourg elite champion in road races and individual time trials .
In 2015 he won the overall classification of the Étoile de Bessèges stage race .
At the Giro d'Italia 2016 , Jungels won the Maglia Bianca of the best young rider and was sixth overall after having been the overall leader of the Maglia Rosa on three stages .
At the Giro d'Italia 2017 he again won the Maglia Bianca for the best young driver and came in eighth overall. He won the 15th stage between Valdengo and Bergamo and was overall leader and holder of the Maglia Rosa for a total of five stages.
In 2018, Jungels won the classic with Liège – Bastogne – Liège with a 37-second lead over its first pursuers, after being able to pull away from the front peloton 19 kilometers from the finish on the Cote de la Roche-aux-Faucons . At the end of the year he was voted Luxembourg Sportsman of the Year .
