Silvan Roger Dillier (* 3. August 1990 in Baden ) is a Swiss road and rail - cyclist .
Athletic career
2006 Silvan Dillier first time Swiss champion in the road race of youth. Since then, the versatile athlete has won national titles as a junior several times, on the track and on the road. In 2008 he became Swiss champion in the individual time trial of the juniors and in the Omnium and together with Claudio Imhof he won the UIV Cup , the junior competition for six-day drivers , at the Zurich six - day race.
In 2011 Dillier won three national titles: He was Swiss champion of the elite in the omnium and in two-man team driving , together with Imhof, and in the individual time trial (U23). At the UCI Rail World Championships 2011 in Apeldoorn he finished eighth in the points race and finished 13th with the Swiss four-man track . At the UEC Rail European Championships (U23) he won the title in the two-man team with Cyrille Thièry . At the UEC European Rail Championships 2011 , also in Apeldoorn, he won the silver medal in the points race and in the two-man team race, together with Claudio Imhof . In 2012 he was European champion (U23) in the single pursuit at the European Rail Championships in Anadia, Portugal . In 2014 and 2015 he was world champion in the team time trial with the team of BMC Racing . In 2015 Dillier won gold at the Swiss Individual Time Trial Championship .
In 2016 Dillier was nominated for participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he finished seventh in the team pursuit with Olivier Beer , Cyrille Thièry and Théry Schir . The following year he won the sixth stage of the Giro d'Italia and became Swiss road racing champion.
The following year, Silvan Dillier broke a finger at Strade Bianche in early March and had to take a break for several weeks. On April 8th, he finished second in the Paris-Roubaix street classic , behind world champion Peter Sagan . Dillier ran away with eight other drivers after about 40 kilometers and was overtaken as the last runaway 50 kilometers before the finish by Sagan, who beat him in the final spurt on the Roubaix velodrome. The Neue Zürcher Zeitung described this placement by Dillier as “one of the biggest surprises of the cycling season so far”.
