Jean Nuttli

Jean Nuttli (born January 2, 1974 in Kriens ) is a former Swiss cyclist who specialized in time trial disciplines.

Athletic career

Until August 1996, Jean Nuttli weighed over 120 kilograms. He decided to drastically change his lifestyle and spent months training on an ergometer in his room; At Christmas 1996 he weighed only 68 kilograms. Shortly afterwards he took part in his first cycle race, in which he immediately took second place behind the professional Michael Themann .

In 2000, Nuttli took third place in the Swiss championship in the individual time trial and was then sent by the Swiss Cycling Association to the World Championships in France in October 2000 , where he achieved eleventh place in the time trial shortly before the finish despite being misdirected by the accompanying motorcycle. After winning the Chrono des Herbiers shortly afterwards , he was awarded a contract with the Swiss Phonak Cycling Team for 2001 .

In 2001 Jean Nuttli became Swiss champion in the individual time trial and won the Chrono again, in 2002 he was runner-up. In 2003 he won the Brandenburg Tour and, together with Philippe Schnyder, the Duo Normand . In 2004 he finished third again in the Swiss time trial championship.

During his career Nuttli tried several times to break the hour record held by Chris Boardman of 49.441 km. On November 16, 2002, he covered 47.093 kilometers (which is still the Swiss record until 2014 ) after having to abandon his first world record attempt after 20 minutes the day before (at an average of 48.649 km / h). In December 2004, he reached 46.642 kilometers in his last attempt in the Vienna Ferry-Dusika-Hallenstadion .

In 2006 Swiss television broadcast a documentary about Jean Nuttli.
