Circuit Cycliste Sarthe

The Circuit Cycliste Sarthe is a stage race in the Sarthe department that was launched in 1953 by the journalist Fernand Bocage from the newspaper Le Maine libre . Professional teams have also been allowed to take part since 1975. The race usually goes over four stages and belongs to UCI category 2.1. It traditionally takes place in April. Famous drivers Greg LeMond (1980) and Bernard Hinault (1975 and 1976) won the race. German racing drivers have also played a role in this race: in 2005 Jan Ullrich prepared here for the Tour de France . In 2006, Stefan Schumacher won , and Gerolsteiner sprinter Robert Förster won the first stage in the mass sprint . In 2007, Andreas Klöden finally won the tour and Robert Förster took second place in a stage twice.
