Richard Peter Witschge (born September 20, 1969 in Amsterdam ) is a former Dutch football player .
Career
society
On October 26, 1986 Witschge made his debut for Ajax Amsterdam in the Eredivisie . At the end of his first year as a professional, the then 18-year-old won the KNVB Cup and with it his first national title. The defensive midfielder prevailed at the Amsterdam team in the following years and became a regular. In 1990 the team became Dutch champions .
For the 1991/92 season Johan Cruyff brought him to FC Barcelona , where Witschge found it difficult to assert himself, also because he was the fourth non-Spaniard next to Stoichkov, Laudrup and Koeman because of the foreigner regulation often not given a chance. In 1992 Barça won the European Cup in 1992 , but Witschge did not play in the final against Sampdoria Genoa . This was followed by winning the Spanish championship in 1993.
In the summer of 1993 Witschge moved to France to Girondins Bordeaux . There it was used more often again. In March 1995, the club loaned him to Blackburn Rovers for three months , for which he only played one game. In 1996 Bordeaux reached the final of the UEFA Cup , but lost 2-0 and 3-1 against FC Bayern Munich . Witschge completed both games.
In 1996 he returned to Ajax and stayed there for the next seven years. There he won the national championship and cup double in 1998 . In 2001/02 he was awarded to Deportivo Alavés for a year .
In the summer of 2003 Witschge moved to the Dutch amateur club ADO '20 . After only half a year he went to Japan to join Ōita Trinita . But even there it only lasted for six months. There was no comeback in Europe with the Glasgow Rangers after he fell through the sports medical exam.
National team
Witschge played four games for the Dutch national team at the 1990 World Cup in Italy and the 1996 European Championship in England . He made a total of 31 games for the KNVB and scored one goal.
