Ramūnas Navardauskas (born January 30, 1988 in Šilalė , Lithuanian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Lithuanian cyclist . By 2019 he had eight Lithuanian championship titles.
Life
Navardauskas grew up in Klaipėda .
Ramūnas Navardauskas was in 2005 in the junior class Lithuanian time trial champion and he won a stage in the Cup of Grudziądz Town President . The next year he won the prologue at the Tour du Pays de Vaud . As a driver for the Belgian-Lithuanian Continental Team Klaipeda-Splendid , Navardauskas won the road race of the national championship in 2007. He also won a stage each in the Tour de Liège and the Ronde van Antwerpen as well as the one-day race Zillebeke-Westouter-Zillebeke. On the fourth stage of the Giro d'Italia 2012 , his Garmin-Barracuda team won the team time trial , which gave Navardauskas the lead in the overall standings. This makes him the first Lithuanian professional cyclist to win the Maglia Rosa ('pink jersey'). A year later he was able to win a medium-difficult mountain finish of the Giro single-handedly .
In 2014 Navardauskas won the 19th stage of the Tour de France , making cycling history as the first Lithuanian to win a stage as a single rider after winning a stage with his team in 2011. In 2015 he was named Lithuania's Sportsman of the Year .
In June 2017, Navardauskas gave up during the final stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné and was diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmias . He had an operation in early September. He returned to cycling and was again Lithuanian road champion in 2019.
