Tomas Vaitkus (born February 4, 1982 in Klaipėda ) is a Lithuanian cyclist .

Career

Vaitkus became a professional at Landbouwkrediet-Colnago in 2003 . He drove there for two years and switched to the current UCI ProTeam Ag2r Prévoyance . The U23 time trial world champion from 2002 had his most successful year in the 2005 season. He won the Tartu GP and finished second in several important races. Among other things, he finished second in the 2006 Giro d'Italia and fourth in the Tour of Denmark , where he had won two stages in previous years. In the UCI Europe Tour 2005 , the strong sprinting Lithuanian finished 15th overall.

At the Giro d'Italia 2006 he beat Paolo Bettini , Olaf Pollack and Robbie McEwen in the mass sprint of the 9th stage and thus secured the biggest victory of his career.

At the end of the 2013 season he ended his career as a professional cyclist. However, he came back from his retirement for the 2015 season.
