David Cañada
David Cañada García (born March 11, 1975 in Saragossa , † May 28, 2016 in Castejón de Sos ) was a Spanish cyclist .
successes
Cañada has been a professional since 1996. In 2000 he won the overall ratings of the Sarthe and the Murcia tours . In 2003 he achieved a seventh place at the Ruta del Sol and a third place at Rund um Köln . He celebrated his greatest success in 2006 with the overall victory in the Tour of Catalonia . He competed in the Tour de France five times - in 2000 , 2003 , 2005 , 2006 and 2007 ; his best overall ranking was 33rd in 2000. He started three times each at the Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta a España ; at the 2004 Giro he finished 17th at the end of the 2009 season after he was diagnosed with skin cancer.
Cañada was killed on the Puertos Ribagorza cycle tour in May 2016 after he collided with another rider and sustained severe head injuries. Around 2000 athletes took part in the ride.
