Ernst Fuchs (cyclist)

Ernst Fuchs (born December 27, 1936 in Altenrhein ; † September 15, 1994 ) was a Swiss cyclist and Swiss champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Fuchs started cycling in 1955. In 1957, by winning the season opening race in Lugano, he qualified for what was then the Swiss A-class for amateurs . In 1960 he was able to win the national championship title in the street race of amateurs. In the following year he obtained an independent license in order to be able to take part in professional driver races. He received a contract with the Swiss professional team Tigra , when he started abroad he drove for the French team Helyett-Fynsec-Hutchinson , whose captain was Jacques Anquetil . In the summer of 1961 he won the Swiss championship for professional drivers as an independent driver in front of the much better-known professionals Rolf Graf and Rolf Maurer . This was followed by a start at the Tour de l Àvenir . In 1961 he had previously tackled the domestic Tour de Suisse (34th in the final classification) for the first time . In that year, however, he developed intervertebral disc problems that ultimately forced him to take longer breaks in training and competitions and finally to give up cycling in 1963.

Professional

Ernst Fuchs completed his training as a tool mechanic.
