Jean Majerus

Jean Majerus (born February 6, 1914 in Bettembourg ; † June 16, 1983 in Esch an der Alzette ) was a Luxembourg professional cyclist who took part in the Tour de France four times .

Athletic career

His career began in 1931 when he joined the La Pedale 07 Schifflange club . In 1934 and 1935 he won the national junior championship. He is often referred to as Jean Majerus II because there was a rider of the same name in Luxembourg before his career who also took part in the Tour de France (1924 and 1925).

In the Tour de France in 1937 and 1938 , he rode a total of nine days in the yellow jersey of the overall leader and also won two stages. In his four participations in the tour he was eliminated three times, in 1938 he finished the tour in 49th place. In 1947 he ended his career after he had just become national champion of Luxembourg in the sprint in the single pursuit .

Professional

After his sporting career, Jean Majerus worked as a representative of a wholesaler for bakery items.
