Apple Springs is an inhabited unincorporated community in Trinity County in the US state of Texas with 185 inhabitants. The place is also known as May Apple Springs .
history
Carlisle is 15 miles northeast of Groveton in northeast Trinity County. The community was founded at the time of the Civil War . It was named after the apple that grew lush on the bank of the nearby stream. When the post office opened in 1884, the name was shortened to Apple Springs.
Over time, the location has been relocated twice:
- When the railroad from Groveton to Vair was built, the place moved closer to the railroad.
- When the railway line was closed in 1931, the location was relocated to Statehighway 95, which had been built two years earlier.
The place grew steadily until the 1960s. In 1965 it reached its highest population of 285. After a decline in the 1990s, the population rose again to 185 (status: 2000).
