Tour de Wallonie

The Tour de Wallonie is a Belgian cycling race .

The first race was in 1974 as an amateur race in the province of Hainaut . In the following years the name changed to Tour du Hainaut occidental, Tour du Hainaut, Tour de la Région Wallone and others. Since 2007 it has been called the Tour de Wallonie .

The Tour de Wallonie is a stage race , is usually held in five stages and takes place annually at the end of July. The race has been part of the UCI Europe Tour since 2005 and is classified in the highest category 2nd HC. The route runs through the Belgian region of Wallonia . The organizer also organizes the GP de Wallonie , which takes place in September . So far, only two drivers, Mario Kummer ( GDR ) and Greg Van Avermaet ( Belgium ), have won the race twice.

The only German winner since reunification was Thomas Fleischer in 1996 .
