Joona Risto Pekka Laukka (born June 30, 1972 in Vantaa ) is a former Finnish cyclist .

Athletic career

In 1994 Joona Laukka won the first edition of the Tour de la Région Wallone. 1995 he finished 14th in Paris – Nice . The following year he was two-time Finnish champion, in road races and in the individual time trial , and was 14th in the overall ranking of the Giro d ' Italia . Also in 1996 he started at the Olympic Games and finished 57th in the road race.

Laukka competed twice in the Tour de France ; when it started in 1997 , he was the first Finn to take part in the tour. In the overall standings he finished 35th. The following year he gave up during the twelfth stage. In 2001 Joona Laukka was national runner-up in the individual time trial and third in the road race. In the following season he ended his cycling career.

Professional

At the end of the 1990s, Joona Laukka moved with his family to France, where he still lives today (as of 2014). He works as a product manager for Polar Heart Rate monitors as well as a manager of drivers. He was also involved in the Cyclistes Professionnels Associés (CPA), the association of professional cyclists, and is a member of the working groups of the Union Cycliste Internationale .
