Raul Hellberg

Raul Hellberg (born December 15, 1900 in Porvoo , † October 30, 1985 ibid) was a Finnish cyclist and entrepreneur .

Raul Hellberg was the dominant Finnish cyclist from the 1920s to the 1930s. He won a total of 24 national titles, in road races and in the individual time trial on the road as well as in the sprint , individual and team pursuit on the track . In 1930 and 1932 he was Scandinavian time trial champion, in 1927 and 1934 second.

In 1928 Hellberg started in the road race at the Olympic Games in Amsterdam and finished tenth. He was known for his single-minded training (based on ideas from Paavo Nurmi ) as well as for improving his material. In summer and winter he drove the Porvoo- Helsinki- Porvoo route (around 103 kilometers) every day . Like many successful Finnish cyclists, he started for the Porvoon Akilles club .

In 1926 Raul Hellberg founded Raul Hellberg Oy , a wholesaler for bicycles and accessories. In 1964 he was awarded the title of " Kommerzienrat " ( Kauppaneuvos ) in Finland . The company he founded still exists today.
