Jussi Veikkanen (born March 29, 1981 in Riihimäki ) is a former Finnish cyclist .

Career

When he was young, Veikkanen still rode cyclocross and was the Finnish junior champion in this sport in 1998 and 1999. When he drove in the Mälarenergi team in 2003, he became the Finnish road champion in the elite class. He then came to the Espoirs (U23) of the VC Roubaix in France.

After a year in which Veikkanen performed well and won the Grand Prix Marbriers , he moved to the UCI ProTeam Française des Jeux . In 2005 he repeated winning the championship title in Finland. At the beginning of the 2006 season he won the Gabonese race La Tropicale Amissa Bongo Ondimba . On July 2, 2006 he was again Finnish champion in Rovaniemi. On August 23, he won the second stage of the Tour du Poitou-Charentes .

On September 4th, 2008 he won the sixth stage of the Deutschland Tour over 189 km from Bad Fredeburg to Neuss.

At the Tour de France 2009 Veikkanen wore the dotted jersey from the third up to and including the sixth stage . In 2010 Veikkanen won a stage of the Tour Méditerranéen . He also won the Finnish road racing championships in the same year.

In 2011 he moved to the Belgian Omega Pharma-Lotto team . However, he left this team again at the end of the season. He went back to FDJ . In 2013 and 2014 he was also the Finnish road racing champion again.

At the end of 2015 Veikkanen announced his retirement from competitive cycling. He took over the post of sports director at FDJ .
