Harry Hannus

Harry Hans Erik Hannus (born December 20, 1949 in Porvoo ) is a former Finnish cyclist .

Harry Hannus was an amateur cyclist from the late 1960s to the mid 1980s . He won a total of 28 national titles, on the road and on the track . He was the Finnish champion in the individual time trial ten times, making him the best Finnish cyclist of his time.

In 1969 Hannus won a stage of the British Milk Race , in 1971 he was runner-up in the Scandinavian Road Race Championships, in 1975 runner-up and in 1977 third in the overall ranking of the Berlin stage race , which he finally won in 1980. He took part in the UCI road world championships ten times ; his best placement was fourth at the 1977 Road World Championships in San Cristóbal . In 1982 he won the team time trial at the Scandinavian Championships , together with Patrick Wackström , Harri Juhani Hedgren and Kari Myyryläinen . He started six times in the International Peace Tour, when he last started in 1978 he achieved his best place in the tour with 29th place in the overall ranking.

Harry Hannus took part in four Olympic Games. 1972 in Munich he started in the individual road race and in the team time trial, 1976 in the road race and the team pursuit and in 1980 in Moscow and 1984 in Los Angeles in road race and team time trial. His best individual result was twelfth place in the road race, his best team result was seventh place in the team time trial, both in 1980 in Moscow.

Like many successful Finnish cyclists, Hannus started for the Porvoon Akilles club .
