Miika Hietanen was active as a cyclist from the late 1980s to the 2000s. In 1988 he became Finnish champion for the first time, in the team pursuit on the track, together with Vesa Mattila , Jari Juhani Lähde and Jyrki Tehävuo , and also national championship in points race . The following year he won the team pursuit title again with Lähde and Tehävuo.
Then Hietanen switched to the street. Overall, he was Finnish road racing champion twice - in 1997 and 1998 - and Finnish time trial champion four times - in 1994, 1997, 1998 and 1999 . He was also successful on an international level: in 1992 and 1993 he won a stage of the Circuit Franco-Belge for himself, in 1993 he won the overall ranking of the Circuit de Saône-et-Loire and in 1995 the Circuito de Getxo . In 2003 he drove his last races.
