The Nanaksagar or Nanak Sagar Dam is located in Udham Singh Nagar in the state of Uttarakhand in India .
Building
The 16 m high earth dam was built in 1962. The dam also includes after splitting Uttaranchals - now Uttarakhand - of Uttar Pradesh of Bareli dividing the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department (Ministry / Agency for irrigation).
Dam break
The dam broke on August 27, 1967 . Around 100 people died in the rupture, which was caused by flooding the dam. The breach in the dam was 50 m wide.
The rivers Ravkara and Arara overflowed their banks. Two villages were completely flooded and more than twenty other villages were caught in the floods. Many people were able to save themselves because runners warned them in good time. Millions of grain and crops were also destroyed.
