Lukas Pöstlberger (born January 10, 1992 in Vöcklabruck ) is an Austrian cyclist .
Athletic career
As a junior rider , Pöstlberger won the Austrian state championship in cyclocross in 2009 . He took part in the 2010 road world championships for juniors and was 32nd in the road race and 23rd in the individual time trial .
During his time as an U23 driver, Pöstlberger was twice Austrian national champion in road races, in 2012 in the elite race and in 2013 in the U23. At the U23 Nations Cup race Tour de l'Avenir he won the third stage in the sprint of a three-man leading group. He also won the international one-day races Grand Prix Kranj 2013 and Tour Bohemia 2014. Pöstlberger represented his country in the U23 competitions of the UCI Road World Championships 2012 to 2014, with his best result in 2014 being 11th in the individual time trial.
After Pöstlberger won the seventh stage of the Tour of Austria , a race hors categorie , with a 13-second lead over a group of pursuers and the Irish stage race An Post Rás in 2015 , he drove at the end of the season as a stagiaire with the German UCI Professional Continental Team Bora-Argon 18 , the later UCI WorldTeam Bora-hansgrohe , with whom he received a regular contract from 2016. For this team he won a stage of the Tour of Upper Austria in 2016 and finished fifth in the 2017 UCI WorldTour race E3 Harelbeke .
Pöstlberger achieved his greatest career success to date by winning the first stage of the Giro d'Italia 2017 , through which he also secured the Maglia Rosa of the overall leader. Pöstlberger increased the pace on the last kilometer so that the sprinters could no longer close the gap.
In 2018 he became Austrian road racing champion again after 2012, and he also competed for the first time in the Tour de France and later in the Tour of Spain .
