René Haselbacher (born September 15, 1977 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian cyclist .

Athletic career

From the age of eight to ten, René Haselbacher played football . At 14, I switched to cycling. In 1996 he became a professional cyclist and initially rode for the two Austrian teams Elk-Haus and Tel-Mineralwolle.

From 1999 Haselbacher drove for the German Gerolsteiner team under the direction of Hans-Michael Holczer . Haselbacher celebrated his greatest success in April 2006 with the overall victory of the Rhineland-Palatinate Tour . In 2007 and 2008 he drove for the Astana team . The sprinter started for the Austrian team Vorarlberg-Corratec in the 2009 season . On July 1, 2010 René Haselbacher left this team after losing his license as Pro Continental status.

In February 2011 Haselbacher ended his career after an unsuccessful team search. He then moved to South Africa, his wife's home.

Haselbacher now lives half of the year with his wife and son in Cape Town and the other half in Austria and runs a company with his wife for the design and manufacture of individual cycling clothing.
