Kurt Schattelbauer (* 1940 in Unterpurkla near Bad Radkersburg, district of Southeast Styria ) is a former Austrian cyclist .

Athletic career

Kurt Schattelbauer is a farmer by profession. He started his career at RV Junior Graz . In 1958 he became the Styrian road champion, in 1961 he won the 1st Styria Tour. In 1962 he was a member of the Austrian national team at the Course de la Paix ( International Peace Race ), the longest amateur stage race in the world, and finished 42nd. In 1973 Kurt Schattelbauer was Austrian state champion in road racing. Ten years earlier he had won the Austrian stage race Vienna-Rabenstein-Gresten-Vienna . He also won several stages of the Tour of Austria and took top places. He was able to win stages in the Tour of Austria twice, and he took part in the Tour 15 times in total. In 1965 he was disqualified on doping charges. He achieved his best placings in 1967 and 1969 with 8th and 9th overall. Schattelbauer was able to record a stage win at the Tour of Canada in 1964 and a victory at the Grand Prix Oran in 1966. In total, he had 362 racing victories by 1976.
