Free-threshing cereals

Free threshing grains are cultivated grains whose fruits fall out of the husks when threshed . These include wheat , rye , naked barley and naked oats .

In contrast to this, spelled , (seed) oats , barley , emmer and einkorn are types of husk in which the seeds are fused with the husks. Because of the peeling process required when used for human nutritional purposes , they are more complex to process, but more resistant to pests.
