The naked oats ( Avena nuda ) is a corn art from the genus oats . This type of oat is called naked because the husk completely falls off when threshed .

features

The naked oat is an annual grass that reaches a height of 40 to 80 centimeters.

The lemmas have a one to two (three) millimeter long awn tip at the tip. The lemma itself is thin-skinned and has strongly protruding nerves. The glumes are significantly shorter than the spikelets. The fruit is only loosely enveloped by cover and palea . The spikelets are three to four-flowered and 18 to 24 millimeters long. Flowering time is June to August.

Occurrence

The species is found wild in Great Britain, Portugal, France, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and Greece. It usually grows as a weed in oat fields . It is limited to the colline altitude level .

use

Naked oats are rarely grown, probably more in the past. Compared to other types of oats, it has a higher fat and bitter content. Naked oats are given a high priority in wholefood nutrition , for example when they are processed into fresh grain porridge or as feed for horse breeding .
