Yuri Alexeyevich Kashirin

Yuri Alexejewitsch Kaschirin ( Russian Юрий Алексеевич Каширин ; born January 20, 1959 in Moscow ) is a Soviet cyclist and Olympic champion in cycling .

Athletic career

His first international success was winning the silver medal in the team time trial at the UCI Junior World Championships in 1977. In 1980 he won the gold medal in the team time trial with Sergei Wassiljewitsch Schelpakow , Anatoli Nikolajewitsch Jarkin and Oleg Nikolajewitsch Logwin at the Summer Olympics in Moscow . In the Olympic road race he was 23rd. In 1981 he won the silver medal at the UCI road world championships in the team time trial, a year later it was enough for the bronze medal. He won the British Milk Race twice (1979 and 1982) . He also won a stage at the Tour de l'Avenir (as in 1980). At the national championships in the team time trial, he also managed another victory. He took part in the International Peace Tour three times, with eighth place in 1981 being his best result. In 1983 he won the team time trial title at the UCI Road World Championships with the Soviet selection. His last major success was winning the Giro del Bergamasco in 1985. He started for the Rostov locomotive association during his career. In 1998 he ended his career and became a coach.
