Andrea Peron (born August 14, 1971 in Varese ) is a former Italian cyclist .

Career

Andrea Peron became world champion in 1991 in Stuttgart in the ( street fours ), in 1992 he won the silver medal in the 100 km team time trial with the Italian team at the Olympic Games in Barcelona . With the entire world championship team from 1991 he started in 1992 at the International Peace Tour . He won a stage there and was 7th overall. After his success at the Olympics, he received a professional contract with Team Gatorade .

Peron celebrated his first successes as a professional in 1994 with the Polti team . He won a stage in the Tour DuPont , one in the Hofbräu Cup , and he took part in the Tour de France for the first time . The following year he rode for the American cycling team Motorola . As in the previous year, he won another stage of the Tour DuPont and was again third in the overall standings. In 1996 he won a stage of the Vuelta a Castilla y León and also secured the overall standings. After two years at Motorola , he moved to the French team La Française des Jeux , where he also drove for two years. In 1999, he competed in his best Tour de France for the Spanish racing team ONCE-Deutsche Bank , taking an excellent tenth place overall. In 2000 he returned to Italy to join Fassa Bortolo . In 2001 he became the Italian time trial champion for the first and only time. In 2002 Peron switched to the Danish team CSC-Saxo Bank . In 2003 he was able to win the Italian Firenze – Pistoia individual time trial . After the 2006 season, he ended his professional career .

In 2010 Peron became the sporting director of the UCI ProTeam Garmin-Transitions .
