John Talen
John Talen (born January 18, 1965 in Meppel ) is a former Dutch cyclist .
As an amateur , John Talen won the 1985 Olympia's Tour and the Ster van Brabant . In 1986 he became Dutch champion in the amateur road race; in the same year he won the title of world champion in the team time trial and finished second in the individual road race behind Uwe Ampler . Talen started in 1985 in the International Peace Run (where Erik Breukink was his teammate) and finished 33rd in the overall ranking.
In 1987 Talen joined the professionals . In 1988 he won Dwars door Vlaanderen and the Grand Prix Pino Cerami , in 1989 the Circuito de Getxo , in 1990 the Grote Scheldeprijs and came third on the Tour of Flanders . He started three times without much success in the Tour de France , in 1994 he reached the finish in Paris as the bearer of the Lanterne Rouge . In 1997 Talen won the National Sluitingsprijs . In 2002 he ended his cycling career.
John Talen's children Rebecca and Jordi are also active cyclists.
