Flavio Vanzella

Flavio Vanzella (born March 4, 1964 in Vazzola ) is a former Italian cyclist and world champion.

Vanzella came to cycling in 1980 , before he was active in athletics . In 1985 he took part in a major stage race for the first time, and at the International Peace Race he was 65th in the overall ranking. In 1986 Flavio Vanzella won the Regio Tour . In the same year he was runner-up in the team time trial at the UCI Road World Championships in Colorado Springs , together with Mario Scirea , Eros Poli and Massimo Podenzana . The following year, the Italian street foursome (Vanzella, Poli, Scirea, Roberto Fortunato ) won theWorld Cup in Villach the title. Vanzella also came third in the Italian Amateurs Road Championship . In 1988 he started at the Olympic Games in Seoul and finished fifth in the team time trial.

In 1989 Vanzella became a professional . He started six times in the Tour de France , but was never able to place himself in front in the overall ranking. In 1994 he wore the yellow jersey for two days . At the Tour de Suisse in 1995 he won a stage and in the same year the Giro del Veneto .

In 1998 Flavio Vanzella ended his cycling career, now lives in Susegana and runs a winery together with his sister.
