history
An early settlement that goes back to the Bronze Age can be proven on the basis of archaeological finds. In the Roman era, the Via Claudia Augusta crossed what is today the municipality. The bridge from Susegana over the Piave is still there today. Fortresses were built on the hills. The still preserved Castello di San Salvatore dates from 1323 and later and was built by the Lords of Treviso. After this, the municipality of San Salvador was founded during the French occupation . Later the name was changed to Susegana.
During the First World War , the center of the village was destroyed, including the Church of San Giorgio . The Visitazione della Beata Vergine church contains an altarpiece by Giovanni Antonio da Pordenone and 15th century frescoes discovered in 1984 during restoration work.
traffic
Susegana is on Strada Statale 13 Pontebbana . One train station is served by trains on the line from Venice to Udine . The former railway line from Montebelluna to Susegana (opened in 1916) has been closed since 1966.
