Fregona is a north-east Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2854 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Treviso in Veneto . The municipality is located about 38.5 kilometers north-northeast of Treviso on the Meschio . Fregona borders directly on the province of Belluno and the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region . The administrative center of the municipality is located in the district of Mezzavilla.

In the northeast of the municipality, on the high plateau of the Cansiglio, are the hamlets of Le Rotte and Vallorch, two settlements of the Zimbri people . These were settled by the seven municipalities in the 19th century and formed a small German- speaking island into the 20th century .

About 600 m west of Fregona, but still in the municipality, are the Caglieron Caves (Italian: Grotte del Caglieron ), a series of rock grottos with some spectacular waterfalls. The cavities are partly created by natural erosion, partly by human activity (extraction of sandstone).

Parish partnership

Fregona has had a partnership with the French municipality of Seyssel in the Ain department since 1992 .
