Álvaro Rodríguez Echeverría

Álvaro Rodríguez Echeverría FSC (born July 8, 1942 in San José , Costa Rica ) is the Superior General of the Roman Catholic Order of Brothers of Christian Schools , with around 70,000 brothers in 80 countries around the world, the largest fraternity .

Álvaro Rodríguez joined the congregation of the Brothers of Christian Schools (De la Salle Brothers) in 1959 and studied theology at the Instituto San Pío X in Salamanca, Spain from 1961 to 1964 and philosophy at the Mexican Universidad La Salle (ULSA) from 1968 to 1972 . In 1968 he was ordained a priest. From 1964 to 1992 he held teaching and administrative positions in his order.

In 1992 he was elected Vicar General of the De la Salle Brothers , based in Rome . In 2000 he was elected 27th General Superior with a term of seven years and was re-elected in 2007.
