Il Pordenone (* around 1484 in Pordenone , † January 14, 1539 in Ferrara ; also de Corticellis , incorrectly called Licinio , actually Giovanni Antonio da Pordenone ) was an Italian painter.

Life

Pordenone was based on the models of his Friulian homeland and did not assume the influence of Giorgione and Antonio Palma until around 1510 , without, however, giving up his coarse handling of forms and his inclination for dramatic representations. In 1535 he moved to Venice, and in the same year he was raised to the nobility by the King of Hungary, which is why he took the nickname Regillo.

Appointed in 1538 by Duke Ercole II. D'Este to his court in Ferrara , he died there in January 1539.

A relative of his was Bernardino Licinio da Pordenone , who was active from 1524 to 1542 and preferably painted portraits that are recognizable by the reddish flesh.

reception

Pordenone has painted numerous frescoes and altarpieces, of which the following should be emphasized: the cycle of frescos from the New Testament in San Salvatore zu Colalto , the ceiling and wall paintings in the Malchiostro chapel of the Cathedral of Treviso , in the Cathedral of Cremona (1520–1522) and in the Church of Madonna di Campagna in Piacenza (1529–1531), the altarpieces Madonna between saints in the Cathedral of Pordenone (1515), a Madonna with donors and saints (1526) and the Glory of St. Lorenzo Giustiniani ( Accademia in Venice). Most of his wall paintings on the houses and in the cloisters of Venice have perished or are half extinct. Is received u. a. his St. Martin and Christoforus (1528) in the church of San Rocco .
